Jeff Miller Calls Sharon Helman Firing a 'Positive Step'
Phoenix VA Health Care System Director Sharon Helman was at the center of much of the firestorm that erupted after news emerged of altered waiting lists at VA medical centers across the nation. In Phoenix alone, at least 40 veterans on altered waitlists died while waiting for treatment.
On Monday, the VA announced Helman had been fired, bringing some applause from U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., the chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
VA will never regain the trust of Americas veterans and American taxpayers until all of the corrupt senior executives who created the biggest scandal in the departments history are held accountable to the maximum extent under the law, Miller said on Monday. Sharon Helman's removal is a positive step, but there are still many more VA scandal figures who also must be purged from the department's payroll in order for veterans and families to receive the closure they deserve."
