Jeff Kottkamp Takes on Federal Ruling Striking Down California Gay Marriage Ban
On Friday morning, Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp, locked in a close battle for the Republican nomination in the attorney generals race, came out swinging at a federal court ruling that shot down a law passed in California banning gay marriage.
Wednesdays ruling in California turns on its ear more than 5,000 years of recorded history that establishes marriage is between a man and a woman, said Kottkamp.
Kottkamp called for Attorney General Bill McCollums office to join the appeal to overturn the federal decision.
We must intervene in the appeal of this ruling to protect a similar constitutional amendment approved by nearly 62 percent of Floridians in 2008, said Kottkamp. When liberal judges try to rewrite the Constitution, we as citizens have an obligation to push back in the appropriate way. The framers of the Constitution would have never envisioned the 14th Amendment being blatantly distorted to attack traditional marriage.
Kottkamps stance won the approval of a prominent social conservative who was already backing his campaign.
Jeff Kottkamps leadership in fighting for traditional family values is why hes won the support of Floridas social conservatives, said John Stemberger from the Florida Family Policy Council and a key supporter of the lieutenant governor. Nothing is more vital to our social order than marriage and we applaud Lieutenant Governor Kottkamp for calling on the state of Floridas involvement in reversing the shocking court ruling by another liberal federal judge.
