Jeff Greene Continues to Focus on Liberty City, Kendrick Meek's Backyard
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Greene spent Monday campaigning in Liberty City -- the old stomping ground of former U.S. Rep. Carrie Meek, the mother of his chief rival in the U.S. Senate race, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek. As has been his style throughout the campaign, Greene tore into Meek as an infective career politician.
The Meek team fired back at Greene. "This is another bought-and-paid-for campaign stunt by billionaire Jeff Greene, said Adam Sharon, Meeks communications director. Using the fortune he made wrecking Florida's middle class, Greene is trying to buy Florida's Senate seat. He's asking for votes from the very same people he made millions betting against. Floridians need leaders who will fight for them and just won't allow billionaires like Jeff Greene to buy the ballot box."
Greene is making Meek fight for votes in his own backyard -- and it seems to be working. Greene won the endorsement of the Liberty City Democratic Network at the end of June. Already way behind independent candidate Gov. Charlie Crist and Republican rival former House Speaker Marco Rubio in the polls, the last thing Meek needs is to win back his own base of support.
