Jeb Bush to Head RNC? Speculation Continues on Jeb's Ambitions
With Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele continuing to reel from gaffes, national pundits are increasingly speculating that he needs to be replaced ASAP -- and some are hinting that former Gov. Jeb Bush should take his place.
Over at Politics Daily, Lynn Sweet speculated that Steele needs to be replaced by a big-name Republican and Jeb Bush certainly is that.
The person who chairs a major political party should be solid on four fronts: politics, of course; fund-raising; public policy, and dealing with the media, wrote Sweet. Former Governor Jeb Bush of Florida would be a safe, blue-chip choice who would hit all four marks."
In the meantime, over at venerable conservative publication Human Events, Andrea Billups offered an interesting look at the possibilities of a third Bush presidency .
Would Jeb Bush go to the RNC? It makes sense on some levels. If Jeb Bush is looking to bypass making a run at the White House in 2012 and instead target 2016 for a presidential bid, the RNC job makes a lot of sense -- and could lead to some political dividends if the Republicans win big in November. On the other hand, if the nation is still suffering from Bush fatigue, Republicans will not want yet another Bush running the party.
Jeb Bush may want to turn to a onceup-and-coming politician who chaired the RNC during a tough time for the Republicans and bounced back to win the White House -- George Herbert Walker Bush, who headed the RNC when Richard Nixon resigned and the GOP lost races across the country in the Watergate fallout.
