Jacksonville No. 6 in High-Tech Job Growth in Country

A survey by Forbes magazine lists Jacksonville as No. 6 in the nation for high-tech growth.

Seattle was No. 1, followed by Baltimore; Columbus, Ohio; Raleigh, N.C.; and Salt Lake City.

Jacksonville led the second tier of large cities, followed by Washington, D.C., and San Bernardino-Riverside Calif. Orlando placed 24th.

California's Silicon Valley retains the largest concentration of tech jobs, but it lost roughly one quarter of those positions -- about 80,000 -- in the past decade, Forbes reported. Only New York City lost more tech jobs during that time.

Technology career website Dice.com reported that Jacksonville posted a 58 percent increase in tech jobs compared with a year ago. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and Technisource added the most positions.

Overall job growth in Jacksonville is expected to be about 2 percent over the next year, according to Moody's Economy.com.
