Jack Latvala and John Thrasher Speak Out on Jesse Jackson
More and more lawmakers are voicing their opinions about Rev. Jesse Jackson's comments against Florida and Gov. Rick Scott, and they're not happy with what Jackson is saying.
Jackson has caught considerable flak for his comments where he said to boycott Florida as an "apartheid state"and likened Scott to famous 1960s segregationist and former Alabama Gov. George Wallace, who attempted to obstruct desegregation by physically blocking two black students from entering the University of Alabama's Foster Auditorium in 1963.
Scott and other lawmakers demanded that Jackson apologize, but he has refused.
Jesse Jacksons original statements were bad enough. But after doubling down on them by refusing to apologize, and after the Democrat Party leadership have refused to condemn him and his remarks, this is truly a shameful matter," said Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater. "Rev. Jackson and the Democrat Party leadership should follow Governor Scotts example and lead by working towards unity and a common cause.
Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, also had choice words for Jackson."Reverend Jesse Jackson has a long and disappointing history of making antagonistic comments that intentionally seek to divide instead of unify people. Governor Scott and others have called on him to apologize to Florida for making such shameful accusations, but he has refused," he began. "I too am outraged and offended and join my fellow Legislative leaders in demanding he recant these baseless and inflammatory statements and apologize to all Floridians.Further, I find it ironic that he claims to fight alleged acts of injustice and is so quick to point blame at others, but he is dismissive of his own divisive behavior."
