Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Looks to Extend Teacher Tax Deduction
U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., said on Tuesday that she would co-sponsor the REPAY Supplies Act which would make a $250 classroom expense deduction permanent for teachers who pay for school supplies out of their own pocket. The current deduction is set to expire at the end of the year.
Our children deserve every educational advantage we can provide them and we owe it to the teachers weve entrusted with their learning to make sure they have the tools necessary to succeed, said Ros-Lehtinen. We should be committed to an educational environment where neither teachers nor students worry about the availability of educational supplies. Our teachers provide excellent education for our children and a credit for their out-of-pocket educational supplies is one small way to show our gratitude for their hard work.
