Ileana Ros-Lehtinen: 'Communism is an Abysmal Failure'

With Tuesday marking the 24th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacres, Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen took aim at communist China.

As we remember the hundreds of brave Chinese students who were killed by the ruthless army on June 4, 1989, we must continue to urge responsible nations to call for freedom in China, she said. Democracy, freedom and human rights are nonexistent for the 1.2 billion Chinese who live under the yolk of the Butchers of Beijing. The world raves about the economic growth occurring in China but we all know that economic freedom cannot be a substitute for liberty and democracy.

Let us all use this sad anniversary to renew our efforts to bring freedom to the great people of the Chinese nation, Ros-Lehtinen said. Communism is an abysmal failure and Chinas leaders will be swept aside by their citizens' desire to be truly free.

One of the leading Republicans in Washington on foreign affairs, Ros-Lehtinen is a staunch opponent of other tyrannical communist regimes, including Castro-controlled Cuba.
