Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Backs Carlos Curbelo to Challenge Joe Garcia
Even as former U.S. Rep. David Rivera, R-Fla., starts his bid for a rematch with U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia, D-Fla., his former colleague U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., threw her weight behind Miami Dade School Board member Carlos Curbelo in one of the most competitive congressional races in the nation. Ros-Lehtinen endorsed Curbelo on Sunday morning when she appeared on Facing South Florida on CBS4 and she explained her rationale on Tuesday.
"Carlos represents a new generation of leaders in South Florida, Ros-Lehtinen said. His work on the school board to make government more accountable to the people and dedication to our community are the marks of a true public servant. I know he will work diligently in Congress for lower taxes, fewer regulations, and a stronger economy. As a father, he knows how important it is to build a better America for future generations. I'm proud to stand with Carlos so that together, we can ensure South Florida succeeds.
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is a great leader and a role model for all who aspire to serve the public, Curbelo said. She was the first Hispanic woman to win election to the United States Congress and has consistently delivered for her constituents in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. Ileana has also fought tirelessly for a coherent foreign policy that rewards America's allies and holds its enemies accountable. I am honored to have her support, and I look forward to working with her on important issues such as balancing the federal budget and restoring our country's credibility in the international arena.
