Humane Society Praises Vern Buchanan's Record on Animal Protection

The U.S. Humane Society gave U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., the highest marks of any Republican in Congress for his record on animal protection issues in 2015.

“Congressman Buchanan has been a leading advocate for animal protection in Congress, preventing animal cruelty and protecting endangered species,” said Michael Markarian, the president of the Humane Society Legislative Fund. The Humane Society praised Buchanan’s bill to end shipping horses to Mexico to be slaughtered for food and his efforts to ban cosmetic testing on animals.

“We applaud Congressman Buchanan’s work to celebrate the human-animal bond, protect pets from malicious cruelty and stop abusive practices such as horse slaughter,” Markarian said.

“Stopping animal cruelty and safeguarding threatened wildlife should be a bipartisan issue important to all of us," Buchanan said.
