House to Vote on Boehner Plan After Markets Close
The Hill reports the U.S. House will vote on House Speaker John Boehner's debt-ceiling plan sometime between 5:45 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. EDT, well after U.S. markets close at 4 p.m.
Boehner's plan, which raises the debt ceiling by $900 billion and cuts $917 billion, has been viewed skeptically by the tea-party faction of his Republican caucus. By The Hill's count, tea partiers are one vote shy of killing the plan. They have 22 votes against the plan and need 23 votes to kill it, assuming all Democrats vote against it.
Out of Florida's 19 Republicans in the House, three are planning to vote against it -- Rep. Dennis Ross, Rep. Steve Southerland and Rep. Connie Mack (who also voted against the previous "cut, cap and balance" plan that is essentially dead in the Senate). Three are solidly in favor of Boehner's approach -- Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Rep. Rich Nugent and Rep. Allen West (a staunch tea-partier who gave some fellow freshmen some cover by supporting the speaker).
Reps. Jeff Miller and Tom Rooney are undecided or are still reviewing the plan, and the rest of Florida's delegation has not gone on the record about their potential vote or is otherwise not listed.
