House Ethics Committee to Investigate Trey Radel
The House Ethics Committee will investigate U.S. Rep. Trey Radel, R-Fla., the congressman who caused a commotion after he pled guilty to misdemeanor possession of cocaine in November, according to CNN.
Radel was placed on probation.
The freshman Republican from Fort Myers faced criticism from many Floridians and colleagues after his arrest, which occurred in October. Many called for him to step down from his position in the House of Representatives, but Radel opted to take a leave of absence from Congress and attend rehab instead.
Sometimes in life you need a wake-up call. This is my wake-up call, said Radel, after he told reporters about his leave of absence from the House of Representatives.Im struggling with this disease, but I can overcome it."
Radel is up for re-election in November.
