House Ethics Committee Dismisses Allegations Against Vern Buchanan

On Tuesday, the U.S. House Ethics Committee vote unanimously -- by a 9-0 vote -- to dismiss allegations raised against U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., on personal finance ethics violations. While the committee did find that Buchanan had committed errors on financial disclosure statements, it ruled that these were not major enough to punish the Florida congressman. Buchanan lateramendedthe financial statement to correct the errors.

The committee found no evidence that the errors were knowing or willful and unanimously determined that the errors were not substantively different from the hundreds or thousands of errors corrected by amendment at the requirement of the Committee every year, said U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Ala., the chairman of the committee, and U.S. Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Calif., the ranking Democrat on it, in a joint statement issued Tuesday.
