Is Hillary Clinton Nan Rich's Secret Weapon?

Former state Sen. Nan Rich has kept close with former first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton throughout the years.

In an email sent to supporters Thursday, Rich recalled her close ties with Clinton.

"Last week, I joined Hillary Clinton in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Hippy USA," wrote Rich. "'Hippy' is short for Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters. It is a tremendously successful program that recognizes that a parent is a childs first teacher. And with the proper tools and training, those parents can prepare their children for success in school."

The email then features a photo of a hug between the two.

"In 1985, I spearheaded the pilot project for Hippy in Florida," continued Rich. "Hillary read a Miami Herald story about what we were doing and invited us to Arkansas to meet with her and Bill who was governor at the time.

The rest, as they say, is history. Hillary and Bill Clinton launched Hippy in Arkansas and made it the national model it remains today."

Rich compared herself to Clinton on a statewide level.

"Sen. Clinton is one of the few leaders at the national level willing to fight for programs like HIPPY, but we need someone in the governors office who will fight for quality, early education programs like Hippy and VPK here in Florida. You know I will be that kind of governor because I was that kind of legislator."
