Hialeah Mayor Robaina After Miami-Dade Recall: I am Ready to Run
Calling Tuesday's landslide ouster of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez a "resounding vote of no confidence in the current county administration," Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina says he's ready to step in.
"I commend [recall organizer] Norman Braman for his leadership and commitment to a better Miami-Dade County," Robaina said in a statement issued early Wednesday morning.
"I am confident that voters will be given the opportunity to elect, in a special election, the leadership that will guide the county through this new phase. ... In the days and weeks ahead I will continue to share my vision with the voters."
The County Commission has the option of appointing Alvarez's replacement or calling a special election.
Others interested in the job include County Commissioner Carlos Gimenez, former rapper Luther Campbell and former state Rep. Marcelo Llorente.
