Herman Cain One-Ups the GOP Field With Electrified Border Fence
As GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann met with Arizona legislators to talk tough about illegal immigration, fellow Republican Herman Cain was up against a wall.
Cain was criticized by Hispanic activists for suggesting the United States construct a 20-foot-tall electrified fence to keep out illegal immigrants.
"Its going to have barbed wire on the top. Its going to be electrified. And theres going to be a sign on the other side saying, It will kill you -- Warning, Cain said Saturday.
Though the Georgia businessman said afterward he was just kidding, some were not amused.
Rev. Mark D. Boykin, senior pastor of the Church of All Nations in Boca Raton, called on Cain to retract the statement.
It is appalling that in this day and age politicians resort to incendiary and cruel comments to pander to voters," Boykin said.
Our Constitution provides us all with the right to free speech. Its time for Mr. Cain to use it responsibly, said the pastor, who called on Florida officials to repudiate Cain's comment.
Illegal immigration is expected to be a hot topic at Tuesday night's CNN "Western States" GOP presidential debate in Las Vegas.
