Hell Hath No Fury Like a Disgraced Party Boss ...

Former Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer wants the state to stop investigating him. Rather, he wants the U.S. Attorney's Office to conduct the probe into alleged misappropriation of party funds.

Gov. Charlie Crist, longtime friend of the disgraced RPOF boss, apparently sees things the same way, as he asked Thomas Kirwin, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Florida, to investigate.

While Greer intimates that Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, the GOP's leading gubernatorial candidate, is conflicted on the case, and Crist suggests that "IRS implications" call out for federal involvement, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it has no intention of letting go.

McCollum, who directed the Greer case to FDLE last week, doesn't see the investigation as an "either-or" matter.

"The attorney general has no problem with other agencies looking into it," said Sandi Copes, spokeswoman for the Attorney General's Office.

Nevertheless, McCollum expressed continued confidence in the FDLE's ability to follow the case wherever it leads.

In his burn-it-all-down strategy, Greer has sued the party over an alleged breach of contract, in which he was purportedly promised immunity and a six-figure cash payout.
