Heading to Florida, Barack Obama Sings the 'Drill, Baby, Drill' Chorus
Before heading to Florida to raise more campaign cash this week, Barack Obama floated "news" that his administration is getting serious about soaring energy prices.
Late Monday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney tweeted out a Houston Chronicle story that reported increased offshore drilling.
The article said that shale oil fields and increased offshore drilling -- as well as a dip in the value of natural gas -- are fueling stepped-up oil production.
The White House also circulated a release from the Department of the Interior announcing an agreement with Mexico for further drilling in the Gulf.
While the administration continues its blockade of the Keystone pipeline, the self-styled green-energy president, in a surreal twist, is presiding over more drilling than oilman George W. Bush. According to the latest federal reports, U.S. oil production is at its highest level since 2003.
Meantime, however, gasoline prices have nearly doubled since Obama took office in January 2009, hitting a record high for this time of year.
