Hawthorne Mayor Gets Full Term as President of Florida League of Cities

Hawthorne Mayor Matt Surrency will have a full term as president of the Florida League of Cities (FLC). Surrency has been serving on an interim basis at that position since March.

Surrency plans to focus on regional compacts which FLC defined as “collaborative efforts allow multiple cities to join together to tackle a shared issue close to home”

“This year our Florida Regional Compact Initiative will bring problem-solvers in our 411 cities, towns and villages together to address state and federal issues that have plagued our local governments for years,” Surrency said on Tuesday. “Local officials are known for putting aside politics and just getting the job done. I look forward to this opportunity to work with local officials, as well as our FLC Leadership Team, to find solutions to these regional issues.”

Boca Raton Mayor Susan Haynie and Tallahassee City Commissioner Gil Ziffer will be the FLC’s vice presidents.
