Hastings Blames GOP for Supercommittee Failure

U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar, expressed disappointment Tuesday that the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction -- the supercommittee -- failed toreach a debt deal Mondayand, as with most federal and state politicians, put the failure of the supercommittee on the shoulders of the opposing party.

"Unfortunately, it has become clear that Republicans were not interested in compromise," Hastings stated in a release.

Week after week on the House floor, I continue to plead with my colleagues about the millions of Americans who are struggling to find jobs, keep their homes, and provide for their families. To me, this is a very sad day, and, quite frankly, a missed opportunity.

I do hope that from this missed opportunity, Congress can finally come together and get back to the business of working to create jobs, reduce our deficit, and get our nations fiscal house in order.
