Happy Tax Day From The Obama White House

So, how are you feeling about your federal income tax bill this year? The White House says things are looking up.

The administration credits its American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for increasing the average tax refund by "nearly 10 percent."

By the numbers, the White House reported:

  • $160 billion in tax relief to families and businesses.
  • Record average tax refunds of nearly $3,000.
  • 95 percent of "working families" benefited from the Recovery Act's Making Work Pay tax credit, "making it the broadest tax credit in the history of the country."

Still, the overall tax rate for state and federal wages and Social Security for an average-wage worker totaled 24.7 percent -- 1.3 percentage points higher than Canada, which already has "socialized" health care.
