Hall of Famer to Lead Agency for Persons with Disabilities

Florida Womens Hall of Fame member Barbara Palmer, the chief of staff at the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, has been moved into the position of director for the state agency by Gov. Rick Scott.

Palmer will replace Mike Hansen, who has accepted a position with the Florida Senate.

Throughout her distinguished career, Barbara has been widely recognized for her leadership and advocacy work on behalf of individuals seeking equal opportunities, and she has demonstrated that same high energy on behalf of Floridians with disabilities, Scott stated in a release. The agency and the customers it serves will benefit from her broad range of experience and expertise.

Palmer, who was Florida State Universitys womens athletic director from 1977 to 1985, was the assistant secretary for administration with the Florida Department of Children and Families prior to being named the agencys chief of staff in 2011.
