Hail Britannica! Encyclopaedia Out of Print; Now Online Only

This isnt the Florida business and politics story we focus on here, but it is another sign of the times that brought you the Sunshine State News online newspaper in the first place.

According to a story in Wednesdays USA Today (online here; in print, for what its worth, available on many street corners), Encyclopaedia Britannica will no longer publish a print edition.

After 244 years, it will now be available solely online.

According to the article, the last print edition -- in 2010 -- had a press run of only 12,000, with 4,000 still unsold. At a price of almost $1,400, maybe thats not surprising.

Its not free online either, a subscription will run you $69.95 annually -- but its free this week.

The big question is, what are they going to give those spelling bee kids?
