Gwen Graham Gets the Support of Two Major National Democrats

Gwen Graham announced on Thursday that her bid to defeat U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla., won the endorsements of two prominent national Democrats -- U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana.

Graham, the daughter of Bob Graham who served as governor of Florida and in the U.S. Senate, posted the news on Twitter that she was proud to have the support of the two senators who she called role models for all women in public service.

Democrats think Graham offers their best hope of picking up a congressional seat in Florida and, as the endorsements from the two senators show, she continues to gain the support of the partys leaders. Democrats dont want to see a primary and former Florida Senate Democratic Leader Al Lawson, who ran in 2010 and 2012, has left the door open to making a third congressional bid. With Lawson expected to make a decision in the coming weeks, itll be interesting to see if any more leading Democrats come out in support of Graham -- and whether or not these endorsements will keep Lawson out of the race.
