Gus Bilirakis: Terrorist Plot Against George W. Bush Shows Need to Reform Student Visas

With news breaking that authorities arrested a Saudi Arabian student attending school in Texas for plotting terrorist attacks, including one targeting former President George W. Bush, Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis repeated his call for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to crack down on student visas.

"Several recent incidents have demonstrated shortcomings in our ability to properly screen and monitor foreign students," said Bilirakis, who serves on the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security. "Foreign students play a role in our society, but we must remain vigilant to ensure that terrorists do not exploit our student visa process as a way into our country.

Bilirakis noted that the Times Square bomber and some of the 9/11 terrorists entered the U.S. on student visas.
