Guess She's Not a Dolphins Fan; Paula Dockery Votes Against 'Stadium' Bill
State Sen. Paula Dockery cast the lone "no" vote against a bill that would allow additional bonding authority (i.e., taxes) for sports stadiums and other projects.
Senate Bill 466, sponsored by Sen. Oscar Braynon, D-Dolphin Stadium... er, Miami Gardens ...cleared the Commerce and Tourism Committee on a 4-1 vote Tuesday.
The measure is transparently designed to enable local governments in South Florida to raise funds for SunLife (Dolphin) Stadium improvements. NFL officials say the facility needs a series of upgrades if it hopes to compete for future Super Bowls, but the Dolphins' brass has been reluctant to take on that job alone.
Dockery stuck to the fiscally conservative position that billionaire owners don't need taxpayer handouts. Left in a minority of one after the vote, the Lakeland Republican asked: "Where's the love?" Indeed.
