Greer is Back Out on the Streets
After spending the better part of the day in jail, former state Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer was released on bail Wednesday evening.
Greer, who was arrested at his Oveido home early Wednesday morning and charged with six felony counts of fraud, theft and money laundering in connection with his financial dealings at the state GOP, bonded out of the Polk Correctional Facility in Seminole County around 5:40 p.m.
Bail had been set at $105,000 -- some $20,000 less than the party funds prosecutors say Greer personally pocketed through the Victory Strategies consultancy he co-founded with former RPOF Executive Director Delmar Johnson.
No word on whether Greer used an AmEx card to make bail.
In any event, the disgraced party boss won't be living large while waiting for his court date. A federal judge reportedly froze his bank accounts Wednesday.
Gov. Charlie Crist, who selected his longtime friend to head the state party in 2007, continues to maintain that he knew nothing of Greer's alleged activities.
