Graham to Push Oil Spill Recommendations Before Congress
Former Florida Gov. Bob Graham, who co-chaired the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling, will testify before Congress in two weeks about the Commission's findings and recommendations.
Graham said several of the recommendations outlined in the Commission's final report, which was released Tuesday, could be achieved through an executive order by President Barack Obama, but will urge members of Congress to adopt the remaining recommendations, which include raising the cap on oil pollution liability. The cap is currently $75 million.
"I think we passed that cap on the second day of the spill," said Terry Garcia, the former deputy director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and a member of the Commission.
Graham met with Gov. Rick Scott today to discuss the issue, and focused on the safety of any future drilling that could affect Florida.
"I think this incident was a wake-up call for America," Graham said.
