Governor’s Office: Rick Scott ‘Not Proposing Any Gun Law Changes’
The governors office released a statement Thursday noting Gov. Rick Scott is open to ideas about improving school safety, but will not make any recommendations to change existing gun laws.
Governor Scott supports the Second Amendment. He will listen to ideas about improving school safety during the legislative session, but he continues to support the Second Amendment and is not proposing any gun law changes, Jackie Schutz, the governors press secretary, stated in a release.
Responding to a reporters question about the states gun laws on Wednesday during his visit to the Honeywell Aerospace plant in Largo, Scott, according to the Tampa Bay Times, replied, "We have a legislative session coming up I think the right thing to do is go back and look at our laws."
The Tampa Bay Times reported that Scott did not offer any specifics and declined to answer questions about universal background checks for firearm sales or assault weapons.
