Gov. Scott Urges Preparation Ahead of Hurricane Season
Although Florida hasn't been hit with a major hurricane in five years, Gov. Rick Scott on Monday, at the state Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee, highlighted the importance of advanced preparation ahead of a storm.
"It's is important to remain prepared. Disaster response is a team effort; local organizations play a vital role in assisting Floridians during response and recovery," Scott said.
But apart from disaster response, it is residents who can do the most to protect themselves in the event of a storm.
"I remind you all to get a plan. Remember, it is important to have at least three days' worth of necessary supplies to ensure that you and your family's basic needs can be met following a disaster. These include items such as canned foods, bottled water, battery, radios and flashlights," Scott said, adding that also essential is a plan for pets and securing necessary medications.
