Gov. Scott, Solantic and Drug Testing: The Truth Trickles Out

From the moment Rick Scott issued an executive order expanding state-employee drug testing, Florida media outlets ginned up a stream of stories that the governor stood to profit through his Solantic clinics.

Assuming for a minute that Scott is so naive to think the press wouldn't add 2+2 and get 5, let's pause for a reality check. Scott's chief spokesman Brian Burgess presents these facts:

"Solantic is the one asset the governor owns that is directly regulated by the state. That is one of the reasons he placed it in a different type of trust than his other assets. The current arrangement is totally transparent.

"Solantic has no contracts with the state for drug testing, so all this breathless speculation by newspaper columnists has no basis in reality."

Indeed, Solantic has no plans to pursue any drug-testing contracts.

Of course, none of this deters pundits who think they've stumbled onto Watergate II. Unburdened by the truth, one pissy columnist oozed that Scott has an "obsession with collecting urine."

Now who is obsessing? Really.
