Gov. Scott, Cabinet Award Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
Officer Reeshemah Taylor, an eight-year veteran of the Osceola County Corrections Department, received the 2010 Florida Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award on Wednesday in Tallahassee.
Gov. Rick Scott, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater and Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam joined Attorney General Pam Bondi in lauding Taylor and the nine other officers nominated for the award.
Officer Taylor earned the award for her actions on June 22, 2009, when she tried to find a fellow officer who didn't respond to calls. She found the officer being forced at gunpoint to give his uniform to an inmate serving three consecutive life sentences, and proceeded to disarm and detain the inmate.
Before recognizing the nominated officers, Bondi and Scott also took time to recognize the five Florida officers who have died in recent weeks, four from gun battles with felons.
"We will not forget the work you do and the sacrifice you make," Scott said.
