GOP Weighs in on Increasingly Tense Democratic Senate Primary in Florida

Florida Democrats U.S. Reps. Alan Grayson and Patrick Murphy turned up the heat on each other this week as they run in the primary to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in 2016.

Republicans chimed in on Friday, pointing to the increasingly tense Democratic primary.

“Democrats are already living through a bloody primary battle in the Sunshine State, and it won’t get better from here,” the National Republican Senate Committee (NRSC) emailed the media on Friday. “On Sunday, August 30, we’ll still be one year away from the Florida senate primary election. Don’t forget – the DSCC quickly endorsed in this race in order to avoid the disaster that’s playing out before their very eyes. Patrick Murphy and Alan Grayson took the gloves off long ago.

“Democrats should brace themselves,” the NRSC added. “This is going to be ugly.”

Wadi Gaitan, a spokesman for the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF), weighed in as well.

“The present hard-hitting, unlimited attacks between Alan Grayson and Patrick Murphy are a clear sign that Democrats are headed to a bloody primary in a state where they have struggled to make gains in the past,” Gaitan said on Friday. “While Democrats are in disarray heading into 2016, the Florida GOP and NRSC are focused on building a turnkey grassroots and digital operation that will pave the road to victory for the eventual senate Republican nominee.”
