GOP Leaders Want Rick Scott to Back Off Attacking McCollum Over Greer Case
With Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott criticizing Attorney General Bill McCollum, his chief rival for the GOP nomination, for his handling of the case against disgraced former RPOF chairman Jim Greer, Republican leaders from across the state are blasting Scott.
Eighteen Republican leaders -- mostly state committeemen -- sent the Scott campaign a letter today demanding Scott retract his statements.
On Wednesday, following the Florida Department of Law Enforcements arrest of disgraced former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer, you falsely and capriciously attacked Floridas Attorney General Bill McCollum, wrote the Republican leaders. While candidates running for office have the right to offer contrasting opinions and views, your criticism of Attorney General McCollums actions to prosecute Jim Greer to the fullest extent of the law is baseless.
The Republican leaders also used the Greer case to take a shot at the man who backed the former RPOF chairman until recently -- Gov. Charlie Crist.
Unfortunately, the people of Florida have not received the principled leadership they deserved from the governor, wrote the Republicans. In no issue has this been more apparent than in the Jim Greer case. Nearly twelve weeks ago, when Gov. Crist decided to stand on the sidelines while his hand-picked chairman made a shady deal, Attorney General McCollum acted immediately based on evidence presented by current RPOF Chairman John Thrasher that Greer was suspected of criminal activity. Thanks to General McCollum, the Republican Party of Florida is under new leadership and criminal charges against Jim Greer are pending.
