GOP Congressmen Mark 888th Day of No Senate Budget

Four freshmen Republican congressmen from Florida joined other GOP House members in calling attention to "888" on Tuesday.

Today marks the 888th day since the Democratic-controlled Senate last passed a budget, said Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation. He was joined by Reps. Sandy Adams, R-Orlando; Steve Southerland, R-Tallahassee; and Richard Nugent, R-Brooksville, in making the announcement.

Contrasting their chamber with the do-nothing Senate, 36 freshmen GOP congressmen noted that "more than a dozen pro-jobs bills have passed the House, many with bipartisan support, and are awaiting a vote in the Senate."

On a related note, Republican senatorial candidate Mike McCalister assailed Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., for hedging on President Obama's jobs bill.

As reported today in Sunshine State News, a Nelson spokesman said the senator was awaiting final details on a revised package.

"That's a typical answer from a career politician," McCalister said.

"Bill Nelson has been in office way too long to understand what the private sector needs to create jobs.Voters are going to pass their own jobs program in 2012 when they vote out liberal politicians like Bill Nelson and Barack Obama whose left-wing policies are destroying our economy."
