Republicans, led by incoming House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, and Chris Dorworth, R-Lake Mary, questioned whether or not Fair Districts Florida is actually a grassroots effort.
Staff from the House Republicans distributed a backgrounder noting that prominent Democratic politicians, including Bob Graham and Janet Reno, served as co-chairs of the effort. The backgrounder also revealed that a majority of the $3.464 million supporting Fair Districts Florida came from contributions of more than $20,000. This includes $350,000 from the National Educational Association, $350,000 from SEIU, $150,000 from the Florida Education Association, $25,000 from controversial group ACORN and $5,000 from Emilys List.
