Good Friend Mike Fasano, Republican, Distributes Pro-Charlie Crist Mailer
Somebody forgot to tell Florida Sen. Mike Fasano the Republicans don't like Gov. Charlie Crist anymore.
The New Port Richey Repub is about to term-limit out of the Senate, which is just as well, because he likes Charlie plenty and doesn't care who knows.
Fasano has his own federal 527 political committee, Friends for Freedom and Prosperity, for no other reason than to help elect poor Charlie Crist to the U.S. Senate. (Another Republican, former Senate President Ken Pruitt, was at one time named on the 527, too, but he is no longer.)
"It's all properly done and 100 percent transparent," Fasano told Sunshine State News Wednesday, "which is more than I can say for a lot of 527s."
Crist is a man without a party or a whole lot of cash these days. But thanks to Fasano, he does have a $122,000-plus mailer that's just been distributed statewide. As mailers go, this one really is a class act, as Fasano himself is. It heralds the governor for standing up to special interests and rising above partisanship.
Good thing the publication doesn't talk too much about what Charlie believes in, because that's when things go fuzzy fast for the silver-haired ex-GOPer. One thing yesterday, something else today ... whatever will he tell the voters he is tomorrow?
But my hat's off to Sen. Mike Fasano: a maverick, the genuine article, and you have to admire the man even if you don't his candidate.
