Georgia House Passes Immigration Enforcement Bill; Will Florida Follow?
Contrary to disinformation circulated by immigration enthusiasts in Tallahassee, tough legislation is being passed in other states.
Just look over the border to Georgia. That state's Legislature last week gave final approvals to an immigration enforcement bill virtually identical to Rep. Bill Snyder's House Bill 7089.
Like Snyder's bill, Georgia's HB 87 would enable local law-enforcement officers to tack on additional charges if, in the course of a criminal investigation, they learn that an individual is in the country illegally. Unlike Arizona's trailblazing law, neither bill requires individuals to carry proof of citizenship.
The Florida and Georgia bills also contain provisions that private employers use the federal E-Verify database to screen job applicants.
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal said Friday he would sign his state's legislation.
Having cleared committees, Snyder's HB 7089 is headed to the floor of the Florida House.
