George LeMieux Touches on Small-Business Issues

Speaking at the Miami International Airport on Monday, Republican U.S. Sen. George LeMieux focused on small-business issues -- including the Small-Business Lending Act which he helped author.

Innovation, commitment and drive are all elements that can help companies succeed, said LeMieux. But the fact of the matter is many small businesses need access to capital to grow their business and implement their plans. This new law will help free up capital for community banks to loan to small businesses. In addition, this law will help American exporters by increasing and improving the promotion of U.S. exports abroad. In Florida, weve seen the benefits of a vibrant export market and we should continue to invest in this market.

LeMieux offered as an example Millennium Natural Health Products in Doral -- a company he honored by presenting a U.S. Commercial Service Certificate due to its growth and exporting.

It was a pleasure to present Millennium Natural Health Products with a U.S. Commercial Service Exporter Award, said LeMieux. Millennium is the perfect example of a family fulfilling the American Dream. The owners started out of their home and now this company has grown to employ more than 30 people and they export to countries across Latin America. I hope, with the new export assistance measures, more Florida businesses will see similar growth and success.

LeMieux is leaving office at the end of the year and there is speculation that he will run against U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012.
