George LeMieux Targets Obama and Bill Nelson on U.N. Palestinian Vote
Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now running in a crowded Republican primary to see who will challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, weighed in on Palestinian attempts to be recognized as a state at the U.N.
Next week, Palestinians plan to seek recognition of statehood from the United Nations, LeMieux said in a statement released on Friday. I am strongly opposed to the U.N. acknowledging Palestine as a member state while they continue to sanction actions of terror against Israel, our staunchest ally in the Middle East. Palestinian leaders admit their motivation for recognition is to pursue claims against Israel in the International Criminal Court. Until Palestinian leadership commits to a serious peace process and severs ties with Hamas, it should not be granted United Nations recognition."
LeMieux slammed both Nelson and President Barack Obama on the issue.
"President Obama has the worst relationship with Israel of any president, Republican or Democrat, going back to 1948, insisted LeMieux. The lack of support this administration has shown Israel has empowered Palestinians to solicit the U.N. for statehood, and Bill Nelson has said nothing. It is time for Nelson to stand up for Israel, and denounce Palestinians international political stunt.
