George LeMieux Takes Aim at Bill Nelson on Illegal Immigration

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, who is running in a crowded Republican primary to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, came out swinging against the incumbent on Monday over immigration. LeMieux bashed Nelson for doing nothing to combat illegal immigration during his two terms in the Senate.

For 11 years, Bill Nelson has sat back while illegal immigration in this country has grown into an uncontrollable problem, said LeMieux in a statement released on Monday afternoon. Nelsons refusal to protect our borders and appropriately punish criminals costs our local governments millions of dollars. When I was in the Senate, I voted to enhance border security, deter illegal aliens from entering our country, and deny funds to cities that have sanctuary policies. Florida needs a senator who understands the severity of the situation, not one who turns a blind eye to our immigration problem.
