George LeMieux Praises School Choice Laws -- But Ignores Rick Scott
Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux praised the Republican leadership in Tallahassee on Monday for enacting school choice laws that Gov. Rick Scott signed off on. LeMieux is currently running in a crowded Republican primary to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012.
Florida just signed into law five new education bills that are increasing accountability and expanding choice to improve education for our kids, noted LeMieux -- without mentioning by name the governor, who continues to poll poorly. While every child should have access to a quality public education, many families choose home schooling, religious education, or virtual schooling options for their kids. I strongly support giving every parent the ability to choose the best education for their child.
I am a firm believer in local control of our schools and know that the best thing the federal government can do is to not interfere with this state and local responsibility, added LeMieux. As a U.S. senator, Ill always promote educational choice and accountability. However, Ill always be mindful of the limited role of the federal government.
