George LeMieux Backs Paul Ryan's Budget Proposal

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, who is in a crowded pack of Republican candidates looking to challenge Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, noted late on Wednesday that he supported the federal budget proposal backed by U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., adding that he preferred his own plan to take spending back to 2007 levels.

Although I prefer my 2007 solution that would bring us to balance in two years, if I was in the Senate I would have voted for the Ryan plan as opposed to doing nothing and letting Medicare fail, noted LeMieux. We're not going to save this country from financial disaster unless people start entertaining serious proposals.

One of LeMieuxs rivals in the primary -- state Senate President Mike Haridopolos -- is under fire for various comments that he and his campaign team have made in recent days over whether or not he backs the Ryan proposal. Yet another Republican primary contender -- former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner -- is hammering both LeMieux and Haridopolos on the matter.
