George LeMieux Backs Jeff Sessions' Senate Budget Tactic

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now in a crowded Republican primary field to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, called on Wednesday for Senate Republicans to shut down passing appropriations bills until the Democratic-controlled Senate passes a budget.

Every day on the campaign trail, I talk about how federal spending is out of control and about my 2007 solution to bring the federal government to balance in two years, noted LeMieux. Unfortunately, Bill Nelson, Harry Reid and the Democrats in charge of the Senate are not doing anything to get our nation back on the right fiscal path. The Senate has no problem spending our money and putting us further into debt, but they continue to refuse to set priorities and pass a budget.

LeMieux approvingly referred to a proposal from U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., to hold off on passing appropriations measures until the budget was passed.

The Weekly Standard blogged about this proposal earlier, where a source noted the proposal will highlight the absurdity of voting on spending bills without having the spending framework a budget provides. I strongly support this proposal and call on Senator Nelson to be responsible and do the same, added LeMieux.
