Gary Johnson on Jeb Bush: 'Been There, Done That Isn't Working'

Former Gov. Gary Johnson, R-NM, has opened the door to a second Libertarian presidential bid and, this week, offered his take on way former Gov. Jeb Bush, R-Fla., has been overtaken by Donald Trump and other candidates in the Republican field.

“The previously presumed Republican front-runner, Jeb Bush, is fading fast as even ‘mainstream’ Republican voters are increasingly refusing to take their orders from party leaders and funders who think he should be president just because he’s a Bush,” Johnson noted on his “Live Free” blog this week. “Fairly or not, ‘been there, done that’ isn’t working for a country that is absolutely fed up with business-as-usual.

“I could go on, but the point is clear,” Johnson added. “On the Republican side, Americans are seeing, with one glaring exception, a battalion of candidates who look, sound and feel like the same Republican presidential candidates voters have rejected in the past two elections. None are instilling any confidence that government would be smaller, smarter or less costly if they were to be elected than it is today.”

Johnson pulled 1 percent of the popular vote as the Libertarian nominee in 2012.
