Gary Bauer's Take on Heated Race Between Ron Klein and Allen West

On Tuesday, conservative leader Gary Bauer, best known for his bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2000 and leading the Family Research Council, weighed in on congressional races in Florida.

Bauer, now in charge of the Campaign for Working Families PAC, offered his take on the recent ad that U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson launched against Republican opponent Dan Webster, comparing the former House speaker and Senate majority leader to the Taliban -- much as he did on Monday. Bauer also offered his take on a heated race in South Florida between Democratic U.S. Rep. Ron Klein and Republican challenger Allen West.

Retired Lieutenant Colonel Allen West is running against incumbent Ron Klein, wrote Bauer in an e-mail sent out to supporters on Tuesday. West made headlines in 2003 for his service in Iraq when he used enhanced interrogation methods against a captured terrorist to save the lives of his men. During his service in Iraq, his family fell behind in their bills.

Desperate to exploit anything they could find, Florida Democrats put out a mailing attacking West as a deadbeat and tax cheat, continued Bauer. Even worse, they publicized his Social Security number in the mailing, which went to tens of thousands of liberal activists. West is an authentic American hero, but that isnt stopping the Obama/Reid/Pelosi smear machine.
