Gary Bauer Praises Allen West

Conservative leader Gary Bauer, best known for leading the Family Research Council and his bid for the Republican presidential nomination back in 2000, offered strong words of praise for Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Allen West on Wednesday.

I spent most of yesterday on Capitol Hill meeting with House GOP leaders and key committee chairmen, wrote Bauer, now leading the Campaign for Working Families PAC and conservative organization Our American Values, in an e-mail to supporters. It was an off-the-record meeting with other pro-family leaders, so I can't get into the details here. But suffice it to say we had a frank discussion and candid exchange of views on issues that matter most to values voters. I am hopeful that House leaders found yesterday's exchange constructive as they planned for their meeting with President Obama today.

I also took the opportunity to stop by the offices of some freshmen members of Congress to offer some early encouragement for the fights ahead. I had a great discussion with Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), one of our endorsed 2010 candidates and a rising star in the conservative movement, continued Bauer. Keep an eye on this man!

Conservatives across the nation will be able to keep their eyes on West at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) where the Florida Republican will be offering a keynote address.
