FMA Backs Amendment 9 Against Obama Health-Care Laws
Submitted by Kevin Derby on June 25, 2010 - 4:23pm
The Florida Medical Association (FMA) backed a proposed constitutional amendment allowing Floridians to opt out of new federal health-care laws backed by President Barack Obama. The FMA joins the Yes on 9 campaign -- backing the amendment originally sponsored by Sen. Carey Baker, R-Eustace, and Rep. Scott Plakon, R-Longwood.
Florida currently faces an access-to-care crisis, and putting more patients into failed, government-run health insurance programs is not the way to solve it, said Dr. James B. Dolan, president of the FMA. Our endorsement of Amendment 9 reflects Florida physicians continued concerns regarding the health care reforms coming out of Washington, D.C.
