Floridians Snubbed in Congressional 'Supercommittee' Selections
Florida will have the third largest congressional delegation in 2012, but that apparently counts for little with the old-school politicians in Washington, D.C.
With three-quarters of the "supercommittee" appointments announced, the Sunshine State has been shut out so far, while Rust Belt states are represented far beyond their shrinking population.
On Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, announced his three selections to the 12-member budget panel: Reps. Jeb Hensarling of Texas, and Dave Camp and Fred Upton, both of Michigan.
Meantime, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., appointed Sens. Jon Kyl of Arizona, Rob Portman of Ohio and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania.
Earlier, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., tabbed Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, Max Baucus of Montana and John Kerry of Massachusetts.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has yet to announce her choices, but she is said to be under pressure from her party to appoint women and minorities. If so, Pelosi could get a two-fer in Democratic Reps. Corrine Brown of Jacksonville or Frederica Wilson of Miami.
But don't count on that, either.
