Florida Unemployment Rate Rises to 6.3 Percent in August
Gov. Rick Scott announced Florida saw 23,000 jobs created in August but the state unemployment rate rose from 6.2 percent in July to 6.3 percent.
Todays announcement of 23,000 private-sector jobs being created in Florida over the month of August is great news for Florida families, Scott said. As we continue to create an opportunity economy and a business-friendly environment, we are seeing more jobs being created throughout Florida communities. Since December 2010, we have created more than 643,000 private-sector jobs, and we will continue to work so that every Floridian who wants a job can get one.
In December 2010, the month before Scott took office and the lost month under then-Gov. Charlie Crist, the unemployment rate stood at 11.1 percent. Scott faces Crist in Novembers general election.
